Privacy Policy
Effective October 8, 2026
Jackpot Dreaming (“we”, “us”) runs jackpotdreaming.com: a free lottery tax calculator, scratch-ticket rankings and a blog. This policy explains what happens to information when you use the site.
The short version: there are no accounts, no ads, no tracking pixels, no session recording and no third-party cookies, and we don’t sell or share personal information.
At a glance
- There are no accounts. We get your email address (and your name, if you give it) only when you choose to contact us.
- No advertising, tracking pixels, session replay or “heatmap” tools, chat widgets or social-media plugins run on this site, and nothing records your clicks, scrolling or typing.
- No third-party cookies. The only cookies are two optional preference cookies from our own site (see below).
- Visit counts come from Vercel Web Analytics, which uses no cookies and gives us aggregated statistics only.
- Your approximate location (your state) picks a starting point on the page and isn’t stored.
- We don’t sell or share personal information.
What we collect, and what we don’t
Information every browser sends. When your browser loads a page, our hosting provider, Vercel, receives the request, including your IP address, your browser’s user agent, the page you asked for and the page that linked to it. Vercel uses this to deliver the site and protect it from abuse, such as denial-of-service attacks. Vercel makes request logs available to us for about one hour on our plan; we don’t copy, export or keep them. Vercel’s own practices are in the Vercel Privacy Notice.
Your approximate location (state). Vercel works out your country and state from your IP address and passes them to our page code. We read only the country and the two-letter state code, and only to choose defaults: which state’s taxes the calculator starts with, and which state’s scratch-ticket list opens first. We don’t store it, log it or put it in a cookie, and we don’t use it for anything else. Pages that use it are never cached and shown to other visitors. You can always pick a different state.
Analytics. We use Vercel Web Analytics (visit counts) and Vercel Speed Insights (how fast pages load). Neither uses cookies or identifiers that follow you across websites. Vercel recognizes a visit by a hash of the request that it discards after 24 hours, and neither service stores your IP address. For each page view they may record: the page address and route, the referring site, certain query parameters, the country, region and city derived from your IP address, your browser, operating system and device type, and, for Speed Insights, page-speed measurements and your connection type (such as 4g). We see only aggregated reports, which cover about the last month on our plan. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track signal, our pages don’t send these analytics at all.
Preferences saved in your browser. To remember choices you make, the site stores a few small values on your device:
| Name | Type | What it holds | How long |
|---|---|---|---|
| takehome-state | Cookie (our site only) | The state you picked in the calculator, or the state in a link you opened | 1 year |
| takehome-local | Cookie (our site only) | A city or county you picked (for example New York City) | 1 year |
| takehome-state, takehome-local | Local storage | The same choices, kept in your browser | Until you clear them |
| takehome-theme | Local storage | Light or dark mode, if you changed it | Until you clear it |
| takehome-spend | Local storage | Items you picked in “what would you buy” | Until you clear it |
| takehome-state-sync | Session storage | A one-time flag that keeps your saved state in step | Until you close the tab |
The two cookies are set only when you choose a state or city, or open a link that includes one. They’re sent to our server with page requests so the calculator opens to your choice; we don’t log or keep them. Nothing in this table is used to track you or shared with anyone. You can delete all of it at any time in your browser’s settings.
Lottery data and ticket images. Our servers fetch public data from official lottery websites to show jackpots, odds and prizes. Those requests come from our servers and contain nothing about you. Ticket images are loaded through our own server as well, so lottery websites don’t receive your IP address or set cookies when you view our pages.
Fonts and other files. Fonts, scripts and images are served from our own domain. Your browser doesn’t contact Google Fonts or any other outside service when you view our pages.
If you contact us. If you use the contact form or email us, we receive what you send; see Messages you send us.
What we don’t collect. No accounts, payment details, precise (GPS) location, contacts, or recordings of what you click, scroll or type, and no names unless you put one in a message to us. The calculator runs in your browser; the amounts you look at aren’t sent anywhere except as part of a page address you choose to share.
Messages you send us
What the contact form collects. Your email address (required, so we can reply), your name if you choose to give it, the topic you pick and your message. The form sets no cookies and loads nothing from other websites: your browser sends the message only to our own server, which emails it to us.
Why. Only to read your message, reply and handle what you ask for, such as a correction or a privacy request. We don’t add you to a mailing list or use your message for marketing.
Spam protection. To limit abuse, our server keeps a scrambled, one-way version of your IP address in memory for up to 24 hours so it can cap how many messages are sent; it can’t be turned back into your address and isn’t written to logs or storage. The form also has a hidden field and a timer that catch automated submissions.
How long we keep it. Messages and our replies stay in our inbox for as long as we need them to handle your request, and we delete them within 2 years. Our email delivery provider, Resend, keeps a copy of each message it sends for 30 days, and our email forwarding provider keeps short-term delivery records. Ask us at any time to delete your messages sooner.
How we use information
- To run, secure and fix the site.
- To pick sensible starting points (your state) on the page.
- To understand, in aggregate, which pages people use and how fast they load.
- To answer messages you send us.
We don’t build profiles, show ads, or make automated decisions about you.
Links to other websites
We link to official lottery websites, problem-gambling helplines, tax agencies and our sources. Those sites have their own privacy practices, which this policy doesn’t cover.
Your privacy rights, including in California
Depending on where you live, including California under the CCPA as amended by the CPRA, you may have the right to know what personal information we have about you, to get a copy, to correct or delete it, to opt out of its sale or sharing, to limit the use of sensitive personal information, and not to be treated differently for using these rights.
How that works here: we don’t keep information that identifies you, so there is usually nothing linked to you to return or delete, but we’ll tell you what we have. Because we don’t sell or share personal information or use sensitive personal information, there’s nothing to opt out of or limit, and we don’t need a “Do Not Sell or Share” link. We also don’t disclose personal information to others for their direct marketing.
To make a request, email privacy@jackpotdreaming.com with “Privacy request” in the subject line, or use our contact form and choose “Privacy request”. We may ask a question or two to confirm the request is genuine, and we aim to respond within 45 days. You can use an authorized agent. Residents of other states with privacy laws (such as Virginia, Colorado and Connecticut) can make the same requests.
Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track
Since we don’t track you across websites, sell or share personal information, there is nothing to opt out of. We still honor these signals: when your browser sends Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track, our pages don’t send analytics.
Children
This site is about the lottery and is meant for adults 18 and older. It isn’t directed to children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we’ll delete it.
Security and where data is processed
The site is served only over HTTPS, and we keep as little information as possible in the first place. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure. Vercel may process the information described here in the United States and other countries where it operates.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we’ll update the effective date at the top of this page, and we’ll note significant changes here. If we ever wanted to start collecting information in a materially different way, such as adding advertising, we would update this policy first.
